Introducing Rethread: Because Kids Grow Too Fast and Uniforms Don’t Compost Themselves

Table of contents

Let’s be honest. If you’ve ever stood in a school uniform shop trying to find the difference between "formal summer" and "sports winter" while your child has a meltdown over their itchy socks — this one’s for you.

We’re excited to announce the launch of Rethread, the place where second hand school uniforms go to be loved again (by someone else’s kid). We’re a marketplace for second hand school clothes, founded by parents who were tired of spending $100 on a blazer only for it to be turned into a paint smock by Term 2.

Why Rethread & Why Now?

Because children, unfortunately for us parents, grow like weeds. Very expensive weeds.

And because we don’t need any more uniforms in landfill, or more parents panicking the night before school starts because they just discovered the only pair of school shorts has mysteriously vanished (probably with the odd socks and your will to iron them).

We built Rethread so families can be apart of their school community to buy and sell second hand school clothes that still have plenty of life left in them — with less waste, less cost, and fewer uniform-shop-induced breakdowns.

What You Can Do Now

Right now, anyone and everyone can list items for every school here in Australia. That’s right — pull out those too-small tunics, that stack of polos your youngest refuses to wear, and those barely-used sports clothes from that one term they joined athletics. Snap a few pics, write a description (“worn with love, ketchup-free”), and you’re good to go.

Whether you’re selling or shopping, we’ve made it easy to find items by school, size, and condition — so you don’t end up with a rugby jersey from a school 800km away. (Unless you’re collecting? We don’t judge.).

Where We're Headed

This is just the beginning. Our next mission: bringing school uniform shops on board.

We want schools to list their official clothes directly on Rethread, alongside second-hand options, giving families more choice, better convenience, and even some sweet Rethread-exclusive offers. Think of it like your school’s uniform shop — but online, open 24/7, and no queue of grumpy parents, and one less reason to go into the school on your day off, or just after work.

Schools can also use Rethread to manage pre-loved donations or list returned stock, and even lost and found. We’ll help them set it up, no tech degree required.

Sustainability, With a Side of Sanity

Every item listed helps keep good clothes out of landfill and money in your pocket. We’re gamifying that too — keep an eye out for sustainability badges and impact stats, because saving the planet deserves more than a silent pat on the back.

So join us. Tell your school. Tell your mates. Tell the parent who always forgets it’s sports day.

Rethread is here to make second hand school uniforms affordable, sustainable, and just a little less painful.
